Buy Limit Order
The Buy Limit order is an order to buy shares at a limit price that is usually lower than the current market price.

When you think that the prices of the securities are heading higher with chances for the price to dip down between now and when it finally does so, then you place a buy limit order.

Computerized data base meant to serve as order books keeps the “buy limit order” in waiting.  This buy limit order is executed by the broker when the prices of the securities fall within the range that is mentioned in your buy limit order.

Your order can be mentioned as:-
Buy 1000 shares INTC limit 116½

By this you mean your order is eligible for execution when the “inside” ask price is
116½.  This order might be placed, for example, when the securities are trading at 117.
