| Austrian Schilling ATS history |
|
The Austrian Schilling was the previous currency of Austria between the periods of 1924 and 1938; however, Austria currently uses the Euro, which was introduced at the fixed parity of €1 = 13.7603 Schilling, when schilling was replaced with Euro in 2002.
100 Groschen made 1 schilling. The first Schilling was issued by the Schilling Act of December 20, 1924. However, the first schilling was abolished in 1938 after the wake of the Anschluss. The Second Shilling was reintroduced in to Austria after the World War II in November 30, 1945. The allied military introduced the paper money dated 1944. The denominations were in 50 Groschen up to 100 Schilling. It was pegged to Reichsmark at 1:1. The first coins were issued for circulation in 1946. The Austrian Schilling stabilized in 1950 when the Schilling was tied to US dollar where 1 USD = 26 Schilling. Later the Schilling was tied to a number of currencies and then in 1976 it was couple to Deutsche Mark. However, after all such confusions, Austria was introduced to the Euro in 1999 and old coins and notes of Schillings was segmented out from circulation. However, the Schilling currencies will be exchangeable for Euro at any Austrian National Branches indefinitely.
